Where is there a better place to toast the new year than on the beach in Bermuda? The island pays homage to its namesake vegetable where thousands gather at King's Square to enjoy street food and live music. The event builds towards midnight as everyone waits for a lighted papier-mache onion replica to descend and then fireworks light up the harbor.

London is the best holiday destination to celebrate New Year's Eve. London lights up the night sky with its thrilling fireworks show. Take a New Year's Eve cruise with an uncompromising view along London's most famous waters – the Thames!

Scotland parties with the outdoor festival of Hogmanay beginning Dec. 30, where torch-carrying partygoers journey from Parliament Square to Calton Hill for a stunning fireworks display. On the 31st, street parties and music festivals mark the day, with even more fireworks over Edinburgh castle. The night concludes with the world's largest performance of “Auld Lang Syne.”

Rio De Janeiro rocks a party! And on New Year's Eve, you can't go wrong at Copacabana Beach. Everyone dresses in white – which is said to be good luck, and the sound of popping corks of champagne is all over the beach. At midnight, people throw flowers into the ocean as a tribute to sea goddess Yemanja.

Paris knows how to toast New Year's Eve with champagne, vin chaud (hot wine) or cider. A unique New Years Paris treat is papillotes, which are chocolates or confections that pop like firecrackers when they are opened. As well, the Champs-Elysées is the place to be. This famous avenue has a wide variety of dining and dancing, and then on the stroke of midnight check out the sparkling lights on the Eiffel Tower.

Fireworks at the Space Needle in Seattle, Washington are truly iconic. There are fun-filled events at Seattle Center, or head to one of the many parks with views of the Needle, like Gas Works, Alki Beach, or Kerry Park. Seattle also offers some of the best beer out there, so forget champagne, drink a tasty brew to bring in the new year!

Valparaíso, Chile boasts one of the hugest fireworks displays in South America. And that's just the start because there's a three-day beach bonanza. Over a million people make their way to the sand, finishing with a stunning collection of pyrotechnics. And even that's not the end of the night, because revelers party until sunrise.

If you love to both ski and gamble, South Lake Tahoe and Reno, Nevada is the best place to visit. For music lovers Tahoe hosts the annual MTV's SnowGlobe Music Festival from Dec. 29 - 31. Quito, Ecuador is a promising city with an awesome New Year's tradition. Locals create scarecrow-like effigies called “viejos,” that are supposed to represent anyone who has wronged you in the past year. At midnight they burn the figures, getting rid of the bad and welcoming the good!
