Jack Jones Sings!
Iconic performer Jack Jones is coming to The Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara! Jack's long career has spanned the genres of pop, big band and jazz, with soulful ballads and amazing musicianship.
Jack sings a variety of genres, the actual music itself being his true love. His song “Wives and Lovers” was the first jazz waltz that ever became a hit. As well, Jack has won two Grammy awards, one for Best Male Vocal Performance for “Wives and Lovers” and the other for Best Male Vocal Performance for “Lollipops and Roses.” Jack also is the infamous voice behind "The Love Boat Theme."
Jack performs around the globe to sold-out audiences in venues ranging from Jazz clubs to the London Palladium. Performing is a personal experience for Jack, where he connects to his audience through the songs he sings. He is a consummate entertainer, and it is the expressions and response of his audience that allows him to put on a great show! He favorite song from his vast library is the song “If” from the album Breadwinners. The song was written by David Gates.
Jack will be performing with pianist Christian Jacobs, drummer Kendall Kay and Chris Colangelo on bass. Christian's recent work includes scoring the music to Clint Eastwood’s movie, “Sully” staring Tom Hanks. Kendall has recorded or performed with artists like Poncho Sanchez, Cecilia Coleman, Steve Huffstetter, and Bob Sheppard. Chris has traveled with heavyweights such as the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, Count Basie Orchestra, and “The Tonight Show Band.”
“It is an honor to have the opportunity to perform at The Lobero Theatre, and perform with an immensely talented trio of musicians,” said Jack Jones. “I am looking forward to getting the chance to really connect and engage with the audience in such a beautiful theatre.”
Jack says the popularity of The Love Boat came as a surprise. “I had no idea,” he says. “Paul Williams called me to sing the theme song and I said 'I don't know if anyone's going to watch a show with a cruise ship.' Shows how much I know!”
As an actor Jack has played various roles, such as Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, a cameo in Airplane II: The Sequel, and in films as The Comeback, Condominium, and Cruise of the Gods. However his favorite role to play was as Don Quixote in Man of La Mancha. “It changed my life,” he says. “The role has a lot of depth and I was energized for it. You are onstage and you better think ahead!”
The show at The Lobero will focus on stories from Jack's life as well as new songs. He is a huge fan of Frank Sinatra, as evidenced by his tribute album “Seriously, Frank.” Expect to see a stirring performance of Frank's hits as well as a vignette from Man of the Mancha.
